John McCain Wins Catholic Support Nationwide

ARLINGTON, VA — Today over 100 prominent Catholics nationwide have come together to support John McCain for president. The National Catholics for McCain Committee, led by U.S. Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Former Governor Frank Keating (R-OK), is growing rapidly. The group is represented by elected officials, businessmen and women, grassroots organizers, students, and Catholic leaders from over two dozen states.

“John McCain has a common sense vision for America based on faith, freedom, and families,” said Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS), National Co-Chair of the National Catholics for McCain Committee. “Committed to the protection of innocent human life, he is a leader Catholics will be proud to support. John McCain knows from experience what it means when a society tramples on the truth of the value of the human person. He is committed to defending the dignity and value of every person, regardless of their status.”

John McCain expressed his deep appreciation and stated, “I want to thank Catholic voters today, who have played a vital role in electing me as the Republican nominee for the presidency. I am humbled by the support of such a diverse group of Catholic leaders who are dedicated to the defense of traditional marriage, advocate for the protection of innocent human life, and share my vision for a stronger, safer and more prosperous America. I stand firmly with those Catholics who believe that human rights are natural rights for all people, in all places, and in all stages of life.”

The National Catholics for McCain Committee is actively recruiting Catholics at the national, regional, state, local, and parish levels to help share John McCain’s vision and pro-Catholic message.

When is John McCain going to say “yes” to being on my national radio show (Across the Nation) on the Catholic Channel on Sirius Satellite Radio?
We have many, many listeners waiting to hear what he has to say.

    Bob

The Catholic Advisory Council released today by Sen. Obama’s campaign is surprisingly deep in credible Catholic leaders, including academic stalwarts, women religious, and many individuals that have worked with the US Bishops conference for decades.

McCain’s Catholic outreach list seemed to composed mostly of political actors, RNC Catholic outreach volunteers and college Republicans.

I think the seriousness of this Advisory Council reflects very favorably on Sen. Obama authentic desire to connect with Catholic voters, including pro-life Catholics. This will bode well for him in the fall.

    1 - am a Catholic
    2 - am a white woman
    3 - am 63 years old
    4 - am a committed Obama supporter.

McCain and Clinton hold too many positions in direction opposition to my understanding of what my Catholic Church means to me. Where is Cardinal Bernardin when we really need him?

I don’t know what you folks are backing up your information on, but these folks are some of the best and brightest Catholics we have on this land.

Lets compare and contrast this list, why dont we:

Senator Sam Brownback- Pro-Life Champion- a recent convert to Catholicism who has been a dedicated Catholic Senate Leader for the past 12 years. His committment to the protection of the unborn has been unpresendented. Not only that, his philsophy is a “pro-life, whole life” approach, meaning that his committment to life is from conception to natural death, a huge part of what Catholic teaching is all about. I could continue to talk about his social justice issues as well, such as his opposition to the death penalty,

Unfortunately, we will be losing him in the Senate in 2010, probably the best Senator we’ve ever had.

Senator Mike Dewine- Moderate Pro-Life Legislature- Strongly Pro-life and voted in ‘Defense of Marriage Act.’ His issues that he represented while Senator include defending the unborn, promoting social issues, and working with Democrats to work on bipartisian issues.

Congressman Ray LaHood- Catholic Congressional Leader- an advocate for speaking out on human life issues in an area he represents which is poltically moderate. He has helped to legislate and guide the issues forward, not move us backwards. His knowledge has helped to lead the way for victory for John.

Deal Hudson- RNC Catholic Outreach Chair- helped secure victory for George Bush in 2000 and 2004 by pushing forward the pro-life issue to the political forefront. Without his guidance and resolution, Catholics would most likely be on the political left of the spectrum if it weren’t for him.

Martin Gillespie- RNC Catholic Outreach Director- the singular reason Bush won Ohio and Pennsylvania in the election. He knows Catholics inside and out and the important issues related to them.

Billy Valentine- Pro-life Champion- head of Catholics4McCain.org blog. His knowledge of pro-life issues maybe #1 in the country amongst college students. He’s a Whose Who? these days, but likely will be taking Senator Sam Brownback’s spot as Pro-life champion in the Senate. He has recruited countless numbers of Catholics to the Republican Party and has shifted the debate to abortion as the #1 issue Catholic Students are most concerned about.

Terry Schilling- Coolest College Republican Ever- Likely winner of Student Pro-Life champion and will probably be the next Sarah Palin. Excellent debater on the issues and his knowledge of politics maybe in the top 2% of the nation. He would most likely win any debate in a congressional, senate, or presidential campaign.

Colm Willis- Greatest Moral Philosopher- definately ranked #1 on philosophy and knowledge of all that is politics. Will most likely be a high ranking advisor to a pro-life leader in Washington one day.

If Obama can come up with a better list of Catholics, you let me know.

Got something to say?
