Washington Post: Obama and Clinton Embellishing Records

March 24, 2008 | Permalink

The New Democratic MascotInteresting that there’s only vague references to John McCain in the article. On the other hand, he’s been running away from most everything with his name on it so far (which will change come the general election).

That said, there’s a reason both Obama and Clinton have to embellish: neither was a Senator in anything but in a Republican Senate with the Republican President. Not exactly a ticket to a lot of action.

On the other hand, between McCain’s constant calls for Rumsfeld to go and his independent leaning legislation (McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy) there will almost certainly be an achievement gap between McCain and the Democratic nominee come the fall. That’s less likely to be a problem for Obama who can use his mantra of change and not being in Washington a long time as a weapon; should Clinton be the nominee, she would almost certainly have to start a completely new campaign.

(Also, it explains some of the vitriol between McCain and Obama.)
