If this party continues to betray the Clintons, the people who got you where you are today, then I, too, will resign from this party, joining the gentleman who wrote the letter at the botton of this post.
Please be advised that I will not vote for Obama, nor will anyone I know. We are all fed up with the backroom negotiations that have led to Obama being able to get this far with no experience. In 8 years I might have voted for him, but now that he has played along with the insiders to steal this nomination, I am done with him.
Also, if Michigan and Florida delegates are not counted at this convention, it will be a political travesty the proportions of which have not been seen EVER in this country, save for when Bush was allowed to steal the election from Gore.
Obama will NEVER beat McCain. If you want to turn this election over to McCain, then permit Obama’s nomination. I will not vote, write in Hillary or vote for McCain if he is chosen. We will also make sure that any super delegate in an elected office who supported Obama is put out of office the next time they come up for election.
The Democratic Party is destroying itself. Howard Dean needs to get a clue. The middle class, middle-aged and senior citizens of this country have waited 8 years to get rid of Bush, and now you are forcing an unqualified, inexperienced candidate on us. We did that once - we got Bush. Wake up!
The following letter appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer today. Please be advised that I and everyone I know feels the same way.
The Democratic Party is sliding into oblivion, and I’m burning my membership card as I write. The Clintons, who represented the last high-water mark of the party, have been betrayed, dishonored and berated by some of their closest allies. Two states that would likely go to Hillary, Florida and Michigan, have lost their credentials. Barack Obama decided to run without establishing the portfolio needed to be a viable, proven candidate or the ability to attract the white, blue-collar and Reagan Democrat votes. The super delegates are shaking in their boots and will not alienate their black constituents by nominating the most likely candidate to defeat John McCain.
Thus the Democrats, in their most liberal posture, are more interested in being the first party to nominate an African American for president than in winning. That this will happen when a Republican president has sent this country reeling is much too bitter a pill to swallow. Change is fine, but not for change’s sake. Democrats are too idealistic and naive to ever appeal to the base of this country.
