The Final Countdown: 10 Days Until Election Day

October 25, 2008 | Permalink

With 10 days left until Election Day, here’s a quick roundup of what’s going on…

  • John’s most recent election projection has Obama with 353 electoral college votes and McCain with 185.  Check it out for some top notch analysis.
  • Reports of tensions in the McCain camp surrounding Palin continue to surface.  Palin allies within the campaign quickly denied the existence of any tensions.  Then, a McCain adviser reportedly called Palin a diva.  Oh no, he didn’t…
  • Conservatives continue to hammer Obama on foreign donations.  The fact that so many false names and foreign donations are able to get through does seem problematic.  However, it may not be if the Obama campaign has been diligent about returning these contributions, or ones  like them in the past.  At the very least, the issue needs to be preemptively addressed by the Obama campaign or the mainstream media really needs to ask some tough questions about it.
  • MW continues to make the case for divided government.  In fairness, it’s not a terrible argument and is worth a read.  However, I just don’t particularly find the principle of divided government all that compelling.  For a critique of divided government, check out ours.  NYT has a related piece in tomorrow’s paper.
  • Ralph Nader is trying to break the world record for the most campaign speeches given in a day.  Perhaps, he can have a celebration with the current world record holder for the most handshakes by a politician in 8 hours - Bill Richardson.
  • Latest conservative rumor/attack against Obama?  He had a mistress! (I’m not linking to this on purpose.  It’s completely unsubstantiated.  But, if you hear someone saying this, rap them on the forehead and hand them a V8)
  • A discussion about transition teams and potential cabinet appointees for both Obama and McCain.  Some of these names seem like total wild speculation though, so take the report with a grain of salt.
  • Tokyo Rose Watch: In Iowa senate debate, challenger Reed calls incumbent Harkin the Tokyo Rose of Al Qaida.
