About 2008Central.net
2008 Central is operated by 08 Gurus JW & AsC and seeks to become the single most comprehensive source for information about the upcoming 2008 U.S. Presidential Election. John and Angelo are both graduates of Fordhdam University.
On being Gurus…
We’re calling ourselves gurus, because that’s what we are. We do presidential politics; it’s what we love. Not just the present and recent past, but all past U.S. presidential politics. Bringing a broader sense of history to campaign coverage enables us to frame our analysis in a context that may be different from other election sites, not necessarily better, but different and certainly valuable. Secondly, we’re both former national and international debaters. Our combined 16 years of debating has left us with unparalleled analytical skills. Skills that we are now using to de-code the politics of electioneering.
On being non-partisan…
First and foremost, any organization that confidently claims that they are non-partisan is one to be wary of. We recognize this. Accordingly, we are wary of our own site and consistently evaluate prior coverage of topics while challenging ourselves to approach new stories from the broadest possible range of perspectives. We believe we’re doing a good job so far and this belief is supported by our rapid growth within the left and right segments of the blogosphere as well as by being featured by non-partisan sources, such as wikipedia’s 2008 Presidential Election page, Yahoo’s 2008 Presidential Election full coverage page and Reuters.
Both of us have the benefit of not being even remotely financially associated with the election or politics in general. We’re not beholden to past employers and political allies or concerned about future employment on some campaign or talk show. We operate the site at a massive financial loss and don’t even muddy it up with advertisements. During the 2004 and 2006 election cycles, we spent the greater portion of our time discussing the mechanics of the election. Our dialogues were very useful, so this election cycle we established 2008 Central as a way to enhance that dialogue by making it public.
As debaters, both of us were often forced to defend positions that we did not personally agree with. By utilizing our experience with analytical approach to cover the election, we ask the right questions about issues across the spectrum. Our tenacity ensures that nothing gets by us. We consistently challenge each other, further ensuring that the content on the site has been properly discussed. We recognize that we’re not perfect. Our imperfection is part of the reason that we opened up this dialouge to the public. By enabling our readers to check us, we further ensure the accuracy of our content and always provide updates and revisions as needed.
Lastly…
2008 Central has not only provided exclusive content to the blogosphere, but we also continue to get it right. Independent research has led us to break stories from McCain’s misuse of Google’s Adwords to Edward’s refusal to let his campaign website be archived. The gurus have challenged various candidates, regardless of party affiliation, when needed and will continue to do so throughout the entire campaign.
